With the hustle and bustle of everyday life full of distractions like work, school, maintaining your home, social obligations, and other tiring life stressors, it’s easy to lose sight of the fun things. My family and I are very guilty of this. Not that we don’t spend time together. But spending the evenings watching TV can get boring.

Deciding that we needed to get out of the house (and out of our rut), Mom suggested that we hit the trails; and since the fall colours were in full swing, teach my brothers about photography as well. Naturally, our destination was Blueberry Rock.

This 1.8 km loop trail is perfect for any skill level and offers a variety of wildlife and nature opportunities along the way. In the parking lot, there is a section that has a fantastic view of the water. The trail starts with gorgeous forest landscapes that feel like you’ve been transported into a fairytale. As the trees begin to part away, you can discover breathtaking granite rockface that is truly a sight to see.

There is a little rest area complete with picnic tables and a fire pit (and maintained by the Lac du Bonnet Trails Association). It was a nice little break, and we enjoyed simply sitting back and taking in the scenery. Plus, the boys deserved the much-needed break.

The Lookout Tower provides an incredible view, overlooking the land through a bird’s eye view. Just past the Tower is a quarry; the sight is magnificent.

Scattered throughout the trail are various wildflowers and plant life, so keep your eyes open. You never know what beauty you’ll discover. While we didn’t see any, there is an abundance of wildlife like bald eagles, great horned owls, black bears (personally, I’m glad we didn’t encounter a black bear!), deer, and many more.

Blueberry Rock is best known, obviously, for its blueberries. While we took our adventure out of season for berries (typically for the best, juiciest berries you should pick them in mid to late August), we still had a wonderful, fun time. My brothers enjoyed the hike, learning about photography, and unleashing their creative side; Mom and I enjoyed the break from daily life, being in nature, and the quality family time.

Whether you’re looking for a way to connect with nature, a fun family/friend outing, a place to walk your pet, or looking for a great place to snap a few photos, Blueberry Rock will not disappoint! With marvellous views, wildlife and plant life galore, and the tranquil atmosphere, you can enjoy a relaxing adventure.
