Project Description

Discover the Wild Edibles of the Boreal Forest!

Foraging for wild edibles is growing in popularity around the province. There’s nothing more satisfying than foraging for wild berries, mushrooms and roots. Foraging for wild edibles is a great pastime connecting you with nature and getting you outdoors to experience the incredible wilderness surrounding us.

Lac du Bonnet’s wildness is ripe with wild edibles; you just need to know what you’re looking for! While foraging is great, it is important to do your homework. Not everything in nature is edible. Some poisonous plants, berries, and mushrooms can look very similar to safe edibles. If you’re just getting into foraging, we recommend taking a class on wild edibles, frequently offered by Winnipeg River Recreation, or by visiting various online websites that outline the specifics you need to be aware of before you head out and start picking.

In Lac du Bonnet, our boreal forests are ripe for the picking. Lobster Mushrooms can be found in the fall and summer, following rainy weather. Foragers can find morels in the spring. Blueberry Rock Trail is famous for its wild blueberry season, which starts in July, and wild raspberries, strawberries, and saskatoons can be found in many places through our vast boreal forest.

Your Lac du Bonnet Foraging Experience will Include:

  • Immersive experiences as you discover wild edibles
