Do you know what month it is? To most people, the answer would, of course, be August. But to all you pro-anglers and fishing enthusiasts, your answer would be Fishing Month! August is the official month celebrating all things fishing, and Lac du Bonnet is ready for celebrating.
With over 60 kilometres of rivers and lakes, it’s no wonder that Lac du Bonnet is one of Manitoba’s hottest fishing destinations. Whether you want to be in the thicket of it out on the water, or sit back and relax bankside, you’ll have endless opportunities here!
Lac du Bonnet has many fishing destinations along the Winnipeg River, Lee River, Pinawa Channel, and the Lac du Bonnet Wildlife Association’s Trout Ponds. On your fishing adventure, some of your catches might include Walleye, Northern Pike, Goldeye, Perch, Bass, Channel Cat, Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Tiger Trout, and much more!
The Lac du Bonnet Wildlife Ponds is perfect if you’re looking to catch trout. Operated and maintained by the Lac du Bonnet Wildlife Association, this fishing hot spot is a must-see attraction in Lac du Bonnet. Stocked with three species of trout (Rainbow, Brown, and Tiger), it is encouraged to practice catch and release with Brown and Tiger trout, however, if you are craving fish for dinner, try your hand at cooking up some Rainbow Trout.
August is #fishing month! Celebrate with a visit to the Lac du Bonnet Wildlife Ponds!
The Town Dock and Beach is another excellent place to bring your lawn chairs and cast your line. This is the perfect spot to bring the whole family, especially if some members don’t care for fishing. While you work on snagging that trophy worthy fish, the kids can enjoy splashing in the water, building sandcastles, or having fun on the play structure.
If hitting the open waters is more your style, then we’ve got you covered. Launch from one of six boat launches and enjoy your day exploring the waterways.
· The Laverendrye Boat Launch – North end of Hwy #502
· Winnipeg River Bridge – Hwy #313 on the East side of the bridge
· Roadside Park – Hwy #11 North approximately 15 Km North of Lac du Bonnet
· Parkwood/Fernwood Boat Launch – Located on Parkwood Bay off Fernwood Lane.
· Osprey Boat Launch – Located just north of Osprey Crescent.
· Wood Duck Boat Launch – Located off Wood Duck Bend.
